The 2.0 Mixing Bowl
January 30th, 2006There is a lot of buzz about the development end of Web 2.0. A lot of applications are being released with APIs so that developers, outside of the companies, can build plugins or new components for their favorite applications. What a great idea! Take your product that you think is good, and then let the users have the ability to add on to it the features that they think would be either fun or useful.
Over at Programmable Web they have put together a a collection of what are being called mashups. The basis behind a mashup is a mixing of 1 or more Web 2.0 APIs to build something new. It seems like a simple enough concept to just start merging the functionality from application to application to really get them to do whatever you can dream of.
I highly recommend everyone go through the list of mashups over at Programmable Web and check out some of them. There is a lot of creative stuff being put together. Maybe mashups will be the push in the right direction towards a more open source world. Development between companies occurring in perfect harmony…okay maybe not. But they’re still fun to play with.
